Frequently Asked

Got questions?

Here's what most small business owners ask first. If yours isn't here, just send me a message — I'll get back to you within one business day.

The basics

What makes The Buff Bookkeeper different?+
Most small businesses end up paying for two people who don't talk to each other — a bookkeeper for the day-to-day, and a CPA who shows up once a year at tax time. Stuff gets missed, deductions get left on the table, and you're stuck in the middle translating between them. I'm a full-charge bookkeeper and a Texas-licensed CPA. The same person doing your monthly books is the one who can spot issues and answer the real questions all year — not just in April.
Are you actually a CPA, or just a bookkeeper?+
Both. I'm a Texas-licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA), and I do the bookkeeping myself. A lot of online bookkeeping services aren't owned by CPAs — and that gap shows up the moment you need real strategic insight. You get one person who knows your business, picks up the phone, and is held to real professional standards: state licensing, continuing education, and a code of ethics.
Will I work with the same person every month?+
Yes. You work directly with me — one consistent point of contact who learns your business. No call centers, no rotating junior staff, and "your bookkeeper just left the company" is a sentence you'll never hear.
How do we stay in touch?+
This is my favorite part of the job. I genuinely love building real connections with the people I work with — you're not a ticket number to me. Reach me however's easiest for you: text, email, or a good old-fashioned phone call. I strive to respond within 24 hours, every time. It's the kind of personal attention you just won't get from the big-box bookkeeping shops.
Do you work with small businesses like mine?+
Probably. I work especially well with trades and service businesses — contractors, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, landscaping, roofing — but I also support consultants, freelancers, real estate investors, shop owners, and plenty of other small businesses. If you're not sure you're a fit, hop on a free discovery call and I'll tell you straight.

Pricing & plans

What's included for $395 a month?+
Your monthly books, done right — every transaction categorized, all accounts reconciled, and a Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet delivered each month, personally reviewed by a Texas-licensed CPA. You also get a quarterly review report and a secure QuickBooks Online portal. It's a flat monthly price, month-to-month.
Is there a long-term contract?+
No. Everything is month-to-month. The goal is to earn your business every month by being good at it. If it's not the right fit, you can leave anytime — and everything gets handed off cleanly to your next bookkeeper. No one gets trapped.
What's the Founder's Five program?+
It's an offer for my first five clients: 15% off, locked in for as long as you stay a client — not a 90-day promo or a "first year only" trick. In exchange, I ask for a Google review within 60 days, permission to share your story as a testimonial, a 90-day commitment, and honest feedback as I refine the firm. Once five spots are taken, the offer's done.
Is the Founder's Five discount really for life?+
Yes. As long as you stay a client, your 15% discount stays. If standard pricing goes up over time, your founder's rate stays locked at 15% below the then-current price. If you ever pause and come back, we'd talk it through — but here's how I see it: you took a chance on me early, so you get to keep that perk for as long as we work together. It's my way of saying thank you for being one of the first to believe in what I'm building.
Do you handle tax returns?+
My focus is bookkeeping — clean books all year are the foundation that makes tax time painless. Tax return preparation is available as a flat-fee add-on at tax time; just ask for a quote and you'll know the price upfront, with no surprises.

Getting started

How fast can you get me started?+
Quickly. From the moment you decide to move forward to your first full monthly report, the whole thing typically wraps up within 30 days — start to finish. I'll connect to your bank, get your QuickBooks dialed in, and review where things stand, so you can get right back to running your business.
I'm really behind on my books. Can you still help?+
Yes — and you're not alone. Many owners fall behind, especially in busy seasons. Cleanup is a one-time project that rolls you into monthly bookkeeping once you're caught up. Zero judgment — just a clear path forward.
Do I need to use QuickBooks?+
Yes — the books are kept exclusively in QuickBooks Online. If you're already on QBO, perfect, I'll meet you there. If you're not, getting you set up is part of onboarding.
How does working together actually work?+
Four steps, no enterprise onboarding. One: a free 30-minute call to see if we're a fit. Two: a quick proposal with a flat monthly price and everything spelled out. Three: easy setup — I connect to your bank and software and get the books in shape, usually within a couple of weeks. Four: you go back to work while the books get done every month.
